# AI Prompts for Instagram That Actually Drive Results (2026)

![AI Prompts for Instagram That Actually Drive Results (2026)](/og/blogs/ai-prompts-for-instagram.jpg)

Most guides on AI prompts for Instagram stop at the caption. Write a hook, add a CTA, post it, repeat. That’s fine if your goal is to fill a content calendar. But if your goal is to turn Instagram into a revenue channel — to grow a list, sell a course, book coaching calls — you need prompts that go further than the copy.

This guide covers the full loop: prompts to plan your content, prompts to write it, prompts to engineer the engagement, and prompts to build the DM sequences that convert that engagement into leads and sales. Every prompt here is copy-paste ready. All work with ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.

## Before You Use Any Prompt: Set Your Context Block

Every AI session should start with this. Without it, the AI treats you like a stranger. With it, every output is filtered through your brand, audience, and goals.

```
I'm an Instagram creator in the [niche] space. My audience is [who they are: e.g.
"women 28–40 building online coaching businesses"].
My three content pillars are: [pillar 1], [pillar 2], [pillar 3].
My monetisation model: [how you make money: e.g. "I sell a $497 group coaching
programme and a $27 Instagram audit template"].
My brand voice: [e.g. "direct, no-fluff, occasionally dry humour — think a
smart friend who's already done what my audience wants to do"].
My posting schedule: [X Reels/week, X carousels, X static posts].
Never give me: [what to avoid — e.g. "vague motivational content, anything
that sounds like a LinkedIn post, advice targeting people with 100K+ followers"].
For every output, assume I'm talking to someone who has 5,000–50,000 followers
and wants their next 6 months to look financially different.
```

Paste this at the top of every session. In ChatGPT you can save it under Settings → Personalization → Custom Instructions so it loads automatically.

## Part 1: Content Planning Prompts

### The 4-Week Content Engine

This prompt builds a complete month of content in one output. The key is specifying _format mix_ and _intent per post_ — not just topics.

```
Act as an Instagram content strategist. Using my context above, build a
4-week content calendar.
For each week, give me:
- 3 Reels (hook, core angle, CTA type: follow / comment / DM)
- 2 carousels (title, 3-sentence summary of what each slide covers)
- 2 static posts (one value-driven, one personal/story-based)
Label each post with its PRIMARY intent:
[REACH] = optimised for new eyes, shareable
[TRUST] = builds authority and connection with existing audience
[CONVERT] = designed to generate DMs, link clicks, or enquiries
Distribute roughly: 40% REACH, 40% TRUST, 20% CONVERT across the month.
Do not give me generic topic suggestions. Give me specific post titles I
could film or write today.
```

**Why the intent labels matter:** Most creators accidentally publish 90% TRUST content — they’re always adding value to their existing audience but never reaching new people. The label forces balance.

### The Content Gap Finder

Use this after you’ve been posting for a while and feel like you’re repeating yourself.

```
Here are titles or descriptions of my last 20 posts:
[paste them — rough notes are fine]
Based on my three content pillars ([pillar 1], [pillar 2], [pillar 3]):
1. Which pillar is overrepresented?
2. Which is underrepresented?
3. What angles am I avoiding that my audience probably wants?
4. What format am I underusing?
5. Give me 10 specific post ideas that fill these gaps — not generic topics,
   specific angles with a working title for each.
```

### The Niche Angle Excavator

If you feel like everything you want to post already exists on Instagram, this prompt helps you find the specific cut that’s yours.

```
My niche is [broad topic]. I want to own a specific angle that isn't already
saturated.
Ask me 8 questions to understand my story, experience, and what makes
my perspective different from others in this space. After I answer,
give me 3 specific content angles — each with:
- A one-sentence positioning statement ("I'm the creator who teaches X
  specifically for Y")
- 5 post ideas that only someone with my angle could credibly make
- Which content pillar each idea belongs to
```

This is a two-phase prompt. The AI interviews you first, then builds the strategy. It consistently produces better output than trying to describe your angle upfront.

## Part 2: Caption and Script Prompts

### The Comment-Bait Caption Formula

The highest-performing Instagram captions do one of three things: ask a question that has a strong opinion answer, make a statement that half your audience will want to agree with loudly, or offer something in exchange for a specific comment keyword.

```
Write 5 Instagram captions for a post about [your topic].
Each caption should use a different engagement mechanic:
1. A question with a forced-choice answer ("Are you X or Y? Comment below.")
2. A polarising statement that invites debate (something your audience
   feels strongly about, not manufactured controversy)
3. A "comment [KEYWORD] and I'll send you [specific resource]" offer
4. A relatable mistake or confession that invites others to share theirs
5. A ranked list where you ask people to pick their #1 in the comments
For caption 3, the keyword should be a single word that's naturally
relevant to the topic — not a random word. The resource should be
something genuinely useful (not "more tips").
Niche: [your niche]
Audience goal: [what they want]
Tone: [your voice]
Max 150 words per caption.
```

### The Storytelling Caption

Personal stories outperform informational posts for building trust. The problem is most creators tell stories with no structure — they ramble, bury the point, or skip the tension.

```
Turn this rough story into an Instagram caption:
[paste your story in plain conversational language — grammar doesn't matter]
Structure it as:
Line 1 (hook): A single sentence that makes someone stop scrolling.
The tension, the result, or the unexpected detail — not the setup.
Lines 2–5 (build): The actual story. What happened, what went wrong,
what I was thinking. One idea per line, short sentences.
Lines 6–8 (turn): The moment things changed. The insight, the decision,
the outcome.
Lines 9–10 (close): What this means for the reader. One question or
observation that makes them reflect on their own situation.
Final line (CTA): One specific action. Keep it simple.
Voice: [your brand voice]
Max 200 words. Use line breaks — no wall of text.
```

### The 7-Slide Carousel Script

Carousels get saved more than any other format. Saves signal to the algorithm that your content has lasting value. The structure below is designed for maximum saves.

```
Write the full copy for a 7-slide Instagram carousel on [topic].
Slide 1 — Cover: A bold title (max 6 words) + one-line subheading that
promises a specific outcome. Not "everything you need to know about X."
Something like "The 3 slides that tank your carousels (and how to fix them)."
Slides 2–6 — One actionable point per slide:
- A short headline (max 8 words)
- 2–3 sentences of explanation
- One concrete example or mini case study
- If applicable, one common mistake that relates to this point
Slide 7 — Save Slide: A summary "cheat sheet" or checklist format that
makes this worth saving. Then one CTA: save this, follow for more,
or comment [keyword] for [resource].
Topic: [your topic]
Audience: [who they are]
Make every point specific to [niche]. No filler. No "this varies for everyone."
```

### The 30-Second Reel Script

Reels need to work as audio-only and as silent-scrolling content simultaneously. This prompt writes for both.

```
Write a 30-second Reel script about [topic].
Format:
[0–3 sec] HOOK — spoken out loud AND works as on-screen text overlay.
Max 8 words. The pattern-interrupt, the result, or the hot take.
[3–8 sec] PROBLEM — one sentence naming the mistake, gap, or situation
most of my audience is currently in.
[8–25 sec] SOLUTION — 3 steps or 3 points. Short sentences. Conversational.
Each point should be completable by someone watching this video once.
[25–30 sec] CTA — one specific action: follow, comment a keyword, or save.
For each section, add a note in brackets: [SHOW ON SCREEN: ...] with
what text to overlay and [B-ROLL: ...] with a suggested visual.
Tone: [your voice — casual/direct/educational]
Topic: [what the Reel teaches or shows]
Audience: [who they are and what they're struggling with]
```

### Hook Variations for Any Post

Before you film or write, generate multiple hook options and pick the strongest one.

```
I'm creating a post about [your topic].
Write 10 hook variations using these formats:
1. The counterintuitive result: "I [unusual outcome] by doing [unusual method]"
2. The callout: "If you're still doing [common thing], read this"
3. The number: "[X] [nouns] that [do something unexpected]"
4. The admission: "I used to [mistake] — here's what changed"
5. The comparison: "[Thing everyone does] vs [thing that actually works]"
6. The question (answerable): "Why does [thing] happen even when you [do
   the right thing]?"
7. The hot take: "Unpopular opinion: [your genuine contrarian view on topic]"
8. The specificity trap: "[Specific scenario] — here's exactly what to do"
9. The before/after: "6 months ago I [situation]. Now [outcome]. Here's how."
10. The gap: "Nobody talks about [the thing between step A and step B]"
Each hook: max 12 words. Must work spoken aloud for Reels AND as written
text for carousels and captions.
Niche: [your niche]
```

## Part 3: DM and Conversion Prompts

Most creators stop at the comment. The comment is the start of the conversation, not the end. These prompts write the DM sequences that actually convert.

### The Lead Magnet DM Sequence

For any post where you ask people to comment a keyword in exchange for a resource.

```
Write a 3-message DM sequence for a comment-triggered automation.
Context:
- The post topic: [what the post is about]
- The keyword they commented: [KEYWORD]
- The resource I'm delivering: [exactly what it is — e.g. "a 5-step checklist
  for writing Instagram bios that convert"]
- My paid offer I want to eventually move them toward: [offer name and price]
Message 1 (instant, triggered by comment):
Deliver the resource. Warm, brief, personal-feeling. Under 60 words.
Include the link or describe how to access it.
End with one question that opens a conversation — not a sales question,
a curiosity question.
Message 2 (sent if they reply to Message 1, or 24 hours later if not):
Follow-up. Reference the resource. Ask a qualifying question that tells
me where they are right now. Under 50 words.
Message 3 (only if relevant, sent after they respond to Message 2):
Soft bridge to the paid offer. Not a pitch. A natural next step framed
as "if you want to go deeper, here's what I have." Under 70 words.
Tone: [your voice]. Not salesy. Feels like a real person sent this.
```

### The Story DM Prompt

Stories drive DMs more than feed posts for most creators. This prompt plans both the story content and the follow-up sequence.

```
Give me 5 Instagram Story ideas for [your niche] that are designed to
drive inbound DMs.
For each story idea, include:
- The story concept (what to show/say)
- The specific CTA that drives a DM (not just "DM me" — what they should
  say and why)
- The opening DM reply I send when they message me
- One follow-up question to continue the conversation
Types to include:
- 2 poll or question sticker stories (the result or responses prompt DMs)
- 1 "unpopular opinion" or hot take story that invites debate via DM
- 1 behind-the-scenes story that builds connection and opens a conversation
- 1 direct "DM me [word] for [resource]" story with a visible hook
Niche: [your niche]
What I want the DMs to lead toward: [your offer or goal]
```

## Part 4: Research and Analytics Prompts

### Competitor Content Audit

**Best used with:** Perplexity (real-time web access) or Claude (analysis of content you paste in).

```
I want to understand what's working in my niche on Instagram right now.
Analyse the content strategy of these 3–5 creators: [@handle1, @handle2, @handle3]
For each creator:
1. What content formats do they lean on most?
2. What types of hooks appear in their top-performing posts?
3. What audience frustrations or desires are they repeatedly tapping into?
4. What do their captions have in common (length, structure, CTA type)?
5. What gaps exist in their content — what are they NOT covering?
After analysing all of them:
6. What's the one angle or format that none of them own but their shared
   audience clearly wants?
7. Give me 5 content ideas that sit in that gap — specific titles, not topics.
```

### Your Own Performance Analysis

```
Here are the stats from my last 30 Instagram posts:
[Paste a table or list: post title / format / views / likes / comments /
saves / shares / reach]
Analyse this data and tell me:
1. Which format is performing best on reach? On saves? On comments?
2. What do my top 5 posts by [metric] have in common?
3. What do my bottom 5 posts by [metric] have in common?
4. Is there a posting day or time pattern in the top performers?
5. What should I do more of in the next 30 days based purely on this data?
6. What should I quietly retire?
Give me a specific 30-day adjustment plan based on the patterns, not
general advice about "posting consistently."
```

### Hashtag and SEO Research

**Best used with:** Perplexity for current data.

```
Research the current hashtag landscape for [your niche] on Instagram.
Give me:
- 8 high-volume hashtags (1M+ posts) — for algorithmic reach
- 10 mid-volume hashtags (50K–500K) — for discoverability in my niche
- 8 low-volume hashtags (under 50K) — for ranking on specific keywords
- 5 community or aspirational hashtags my target audience follows
For each hashtag, note:
- Whether it's growing, stable, or declining if you can tell
- The type of content that dominates it (so I know if my content fits)
- Whether it's used more by creators or audiences
Also: are there any keywords in my niche that are underserved as hashtags
(high search intent, low content supply)?
```

## Part 5: Repurposing and Efficiency Prompts

### The One-to-Five Repurpose

```
I have this piece of content: [paste your Reel script, blog post section,
podcast clip transcript, or newsletter excerpt]
Turn it into 5 Instagram formats:
1. Reel script (30 seconds, conversational, hook + 3 points + CTA)
2. Carousel (7 slides, one point per slide)
3. Single caption post (under 150 words, storytelling structure)
4. 3 Story slides with an engagement prompt at the end
5. A comment-bait static post: one bold statement from the content +
   a question that makes people want to weigh in
Keep the core insight identical. Change the delivery for each format.
Flag anything that needs a personal anecdote added — I'll fill those in myself.
```

### Batch Film Prep

Before a filming session, use this to maximise how many posts you can get from one setup.

```
I'm batch filming Reels this week. Here are the 6 topics I want to cover:
1. [Topic 1]
2. [Topic 2]
3. [Topic 3]
4. [Topic 4]
5. [Topic 5]
6. [Topic 6]
Create a filming plan that includes:
- Which Reels can share B-roll footage (so I only film it once)
- Which Reels need different locations or setups (so I can cluster them)
- A shot list for each Reel: main talking head setup + 3 B-roll shots
- Props or items I need on set for each
- Any transitions or visual moments that would elevate specific Reels
Organise by filming location (same background = film back to back).
My home setup: [describe what you have — ring light, window light, desk, etc.]
```

## Part 6: Advanced Technique — Prompt Chaining

Single prompts give single outputs. Prompt chains give you a complete system. Here’s a three-step chain that goes from raw idea to ready-to-post content.

**Step 1: Validate the angle**

```
I'm thinking of posting about [your idea]. Before I write anything:
1. Is there a more specific or unexpected angle on this topic that
   would perform better on Instagram?
2. What does my audience [who they are] most want to know about this?
3. What's the most common bad advice on this topic I could counter?
4. What's a personal story format vs an educational format I could use?
Give me 3 angle options ranked by likely engagement. I'll pick one
and then we'll write the full post.
```

**Step 2: Write the post (using your chosen angle)**

Use the caption or Reel script prompts from Part 2, but reference the angle you chose in Step 1.

```
Use angle #[X] from above. Now write the full [caption / Reel script /
carousel] using the format in my previous prompt.
```

**Step 3: Optimise the hook**

```
Here's the hook from the post we just wrote: "[paste it]"
Rewrite it 5 ways:
- More specific (add a number or name a specific situation)
- More polarising (take a stronger stance)
- More curiosity-driven (make me feel like I'm missing something)
- Shorter (under 7 words)
- First-person story opening ("I [did/discovered/made the mistake of]...")
Keep the intent the same. I'll pick the strongest version.
```

## 5 Prompt Mistakes That Kill Your Output

**1\. Asking for “engaging” content without defining what engagement means to you.** Engagement on a reach post looks different from engagement on a conversion post. Specify the metric you want: comments, saves, DMs, profile visits. The AI can’t optimise for a goal you haven’t named.

**2\. Accepting the first output without iterating.** The first output is a draft. Tell it “make the hook more specific to \[micro-situation in your niche\]” or “rewrite the CTA — it sounds like every other creator. Give me something more direct.” One iteration usually turns a B output into an A output.

**3\. Skipping the context block.** Without it, the AI writes for a generic creator. With it, it writes for your specific audience, niche, and voice. The 90 seconds you spend on context saves you 30 minutes of editing generic outputs into something usable.

**4\. Using the output word-for-word.** AI writes like an AI until you rewrite it to sound like you. Read the output out loud. Every sentence that doesn’t sound like how you actually talk — change it. The goal is a first draft, not a finished post.

**5\. Prompting for content without a distribution strategy behind it.** A great caption that doesn’t drive any action is just content. Before you prompt, know the answer to: what do I want someone to do after reading this? That answer should be in your prompt.

## FAQ

### Which AI tool should I use for Instagram content?

For writing captions, Reel scripts, and carousels, ChatGPT and Claude are both strong — Claude handles longer structured content better, ChatGPT tends to be faster for short-form. For researching trends and competitor content with current data, use Perplexity — it searches the live web and cites sources, which the others don’t. For image generation, ChatGPT (GPT-4o) and Gemini both generate images natively as of 2026. Most working creators use two tools: one for writing, one for research.

### How do I make AI output sound like me?

Three steps: First, include your brand voice description in the context block and give examples of captions you’ve written that you like. Second, after generating, read it out loud — your ear catches AI-isms faster than your eyes. Third, rewrite every sentence that you’d never say in a real conversation. You’re not fixing grammar; you’re adding your cadence. Expect to rewrite 30–50% of every output to make it genuinely yours.

### How many prompts should I use in one session?

Run related prompts in the same conversation so the AI builds on context from earlier in the thread. Planning prompts → writing prompts → optimisation prompts in a single session gives you progressively sharper output. Starting a new conversation each time loses all the context you’ve built.

### Can I use the same prompts for Stories as for feed posts?

Stories work differently — shorter attention span, more casual, built around interaction (polls, questions, swipes). The caption and Reel prompts in this guide are for feed. For Stories, use the Story DM prompts in Part 3, or add this to any prompt: “Adapt this for Instagram Stories: 5–7 slides, max 2 sentences per slide, must include one interactive element (poll, question sticker, or tap-through).”

### Is AI content penalised by Instagram?

As of mid-2026, Instagram does not penalise content created or drafted with AI assistance. The algorithm responds to engagement signals, not production method. What it does penalise is low-engagement content — which is what you get if you post AI output without editing it to your voice and audience. The posts that underperform aren’t AI-written; they’re generic, and generic is the actual problem.

## The Part After the Post

Writing and publishing is half the job. The other half is what happens when someone engages with your content — when they comment, reply to your story, or click to your profile.

If you’re running the comment-keyword strategy from the caption prompts above, every comment that includes your trigger word is a lead entering a conversation. What happens in that conversation determines whether your content actually converts.

**WilloSend** handles the automation side: when someone comments your keyword, it triggers an instant, personalised DM — no manual replies, no missed comments, no 2am follow-ups. The prompts in this guide get people to the comment. WilloSend takes it from there.
